Our Impact

Since 2021, the Blackbird Golf Invitational has committed over $50,000 in scholarships to five exceptional student-athletes — each receiving a $10,000 award paid out over four years of school. With the launch of The J. Leonor Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2026, we’re expanding what we offer: in addition to financial support, our scholars now receive ongoing mentorship, equipment support, and tournament entry fees through our partnership with Dream Builders of Texas Charitable Foundation.

Every scholarship is more than a check on a stage. Our scholars come back year after year to volunteer at the tournament, and we continue to mentor them long after the award is given. That’s how we measure impact — not in dollars raised, but in lives walked alongside.

This work is made possible by generous sponsors, dedicated players, and committed volunteers who believe that opportunity changes everything.

The J. Leonor Memorial Scholarship Fund

“Justin believed in this work from the beginning. He showed up — not just with resources, but with his whole heart. Naming this fund in his honor ensures that the belief he had in these students, and in what we’re building together, lives on in every scholar we support.” — Demonte Alexander, Founder

The J. Leonor Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the memory of Justin Leonor — a beloved partner, trusted friend, and tireless advocate for the work of the Blackbird Golf Invitational. Established in 2026 as the named successor to our scholarship program, the fund continues a legacy of investing in student-athletes who excel both on and off the course.

The fund provides $2,500 per year, renewable up to four years (totaling $10,000), to support students pursuing their post-secondary education. Awards are open to students who demonstrate:

  • Academic achievement
  • Leadership experience
  • Financial need
  • Community service
  • Golf ability

Students must plan to attend a 2-year or 4-year college, university, or trade school in the United States. Scholarships are typically paid directly to the recipient’s institution. When direct payment to the school would adversely affect a recipient’s financial aid eligibility, scholarships may be paid directly to the student by check.

Since 2021, the Blackbird Golf Invitational has committed $50,000 in scholarships to five exceptional student-athletes. Through this fund and our partnership with Dream Builders of Texas Charitable Foundation — a 501(c)(3) charitable organization based in San Antonio — we continue our commitment to providing sustainable financial support to students from underserved and underprivileged communities, while also offering ongoing mentorship, equipment support, and tournament entry fees as part of a true wraparound investment in their futures.
